What you are looking at has been named e-broom. It is the latest mobility platform that comes from Toyota – a futuristic witch’s broom that users can ride in order to get around. As it happens, the concept was very well-received by quidditch fans.
Unfortunately, however, the e-broom by Toyota is yet not able to make the quidditch players airborne like in the famous Harry Potter books. But the e-broom is capable of propelling users on the ground as long as they are wearing roller-skates. The e-broom has been designed to be ridden, similar to a witch’s broom.
The difference is in how it operates; instead of magic that will allow users to take to the skies, it makes use of an electrical motor and a wheel at the bottom for propelling the rider forward at a moderate speed. It is not quite as impressive as the ones we read about in Harry Potter, but it is a step forward toward a real-life quidditch broom!
As of right now, we do not have much information on the e-broom other than some photos and a small demonstration that was given during the recent Tokyo Motor Show. There is no word on the capacity of the motor or the battery. We do not know when and if it is going to be available commercially and what is the maximum speed that it offers. What we do know is that it features a transparent cat as decoration at its tip.
A press release by Toyota said, ‘Experience first-hand mobility of the future! Modeled after a broom used by a witch to fly through the air, this mobility platform integrates people and machines, allowing users to reaffirm the enjoyment of mobility.’ The announcement of this witch’s broom, e-broom, did have Harry Potter fans quite excited. But unless they wish to incorporate roller-skaters in their quidditch games, we believe that they still have to wait until an enhanced broom is available.
