Myo Armband Lets You Control Your Computer With Gestures

Over time, a number of gadgets have become a crucial part of our lives and it seems as if life can’t go on without them, one of them is the computer. Computers have been using keyboards and mouse for data input ever since they were invented. Although we have touchscreens available now but that too requires you to be up close with the touch enabled surface. However, now we have something far better and much more intuitive and fun while being extremely accurate.myo armband (1)

The gadget known as Myo-Armband and it comes from Thalmic Labs, a start-up working from Waterloo, Ontario in Canada. The smart armband will allow users to control their computers via hand gestures. How will it accomplish that? The gadget comes equipped with sensors that are capable of measuring motion and electrical activity in the user’s arm muscles.

The smart armband is able to ascertain particular hand gestures from the information that the sensors collect and subsequently, executes the related instruction on the screen. You can see in the picture that the user is turning on volume by hand gestures. The difference between Microsoft’s Kinect and Myo-Armband is that Kinect relies on a camera to detect movements.

The gadget will be released in September with a price tag of $149 and will work, as per the information released, with Windows, Mac, Android and iOS. The armband connects to the computer via a Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy connection. It comes with a Lithium Ion battery and can be used for days on a single charge. It weighs almost the same as a big wristwatch would and can be worn by anyone (caters for size) as long as it is positioned on the user’s upper forearm.

Stephen Lake, CEO and Co-Founder of Thalmic Labs, said; ‘Our team has put countless hours into creating the sleek design, as well as the technology inside of it. This final design is rugged, while also being lightweight, making it easy for the Myo armband to become a part of our everyday lives.’

Guess we’ll find out how good it really is once it hit the shelves!
