Here’s Why You Should Never Text And Walk Again

We have all been there; sending ‘just a last’ text to our friends, while walking and bumping into people, doors, and walls eventually! Sometimes it is funny, but on the other hand, it can get very, very dangerous. There have been numerous cases of people texting and walking, leading to some serious accidents.

Dr. Dietrich Jehle, a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Buffalo in New York, spoke about the issue in a 2014 press release.

“When texting, you’re not as in control with the complex actions of walking,” “While talking on the phone is a distraction, texting is much more dangerous, because you can’t see the path in front of you.”

Watch people bump into everyday objects in a truly ROFL compilation of texting and walking fails.

While the video above was more hilarious, the next video from the Western Cape Government has a very poignant message for all of us. It has a showreel of the “funniest” texting and walking accidents, followed by a horrific texting and driving accident.

The video makes a point that,

“You can’t even text and walk. So why do you text and drive?”

The video is brought to us by the South African local government which is desperate to reduce road deaths. Its website states,

“South Africa in general and the Western Cape, in particular, have the most dangerous roads in the world and strives to fulfill the UN Decade of Action’s goals to reduce road carnage.”

It goes on to declare that up to 25% of all motor vehicle accidents may be caused by mobile phone usage. Thinking about texting and driving? As the ad says “It can wait”.
