Top Security Cameras That Will Not Break the Bank

The evolution of technology means that it’s now possible for everyone to have access to smart equipment, even if you don’t have a huge budget. Security cameras aren’t just for the wealthy and elite, there’s a whole host of affordable models available to suit every home.

But not all security cameras are created equal; some have more extensive features than others in the same price bracket. What you need will depend on why you’re buying a security camera. For example, if you want to keep an eye on your pet while you’re at work, two-way audio might be a priority.

To help you wade through what’s available, here’s a look at some of the top security cameras which offer top performance and great value.

Yi 720P HD Wireless Camera

The Yi home security camera is one of the best if you’re looking for premium features and a low cost. Available in the current Big 5 weekly ad for just $15 on page 1, it offers a huge saving on its RRP of $39.99 (Valid until 12/06/2020)

The camera includes two-way audio, real-time streaming and alerts when motion is detected in your home. The 720P quality and 111° wide-angle lens means you’ll have an excellent view of what’s going on at all times plus there’s a x4 digital zoom if you need a closer look.

It’s also great for keeping an eye on sleeping children with a night vision sensor that covers up to three metres. Using a micro-SD card, it automatically records and allows you to playback online any periods you’ve missed.

The Yi is compatible with both Android and iOS so if you change your phone, you don’t need to worry. Small and discreet, it can be used in any room of your home.

Reolink Argus 2

If you’re not sure whether you need a security camera for indoors or out, the Reolink Argus 2 is the ideal pick. Compatible with use both inside and outdoors, it’s a versatile design with lots of nifty features.

Freeze-resistant, it’s IP65 certified for weatherproof operation. It includes starlight night vision, giving you excellent sight up to 33 feet, even in low-light conditions. If you have a Reolink solar panel, it’s possible to connect the two so you’ll never run out of battery power. A rechargeable battery is available if you don’t have solar panels.

The 1080P 130° wide-angle camera provides the best possible remote viewing, while a smart sensor sends alerts if it detects movement. You can opt to add an SD card to record movement and to enable feedback but live viewing is available automatically, through both Android and iOS phones.

It’s available for approximately $125 from Reolink but keep an eye open for it in the sales for big discounts. Although it’s considerably more expensive than the Yi, the extra expense is necessary if you need a camera for use outside.

Heimvision 1080P Indoor Camera

Another very affordable indoor security camera, the Heimvision 1080P is a great budget buy at less than $20. A high-resolution 1080P provides clear images while the night vision camera allows you to view up to 32 feet in low-light conditions.

The anti-noise feature on the microphone and speaker means unwanted background sounds will be filtered out when you’re using the two-way audio. This makes it easy to communicate with your baby from another room, or your pet while you’re at work.

A motion detector sends notifications when movement is detected, with automatic recording. This can be accessed via the cloud or memory card, depending on the settings you’ve chosen. It’s possible to customise the settings and alerts as well as share data with other users.
