This Uncomfortable-Looking Amethyst Office Chair Actually Costs $3400

A semiprecious stone processing company in Japan has put up a $450,000 yen ($3,400) office chair for sale. The chair is made out of a huge L-shaped piece of amethyst.

The shop goes by the name of Factory-M and it is based in Saitama. The company specializes in semiprecious natural stones and has recently become popular on social media due to its new item for sale.

The Japanese company shared three pictures of the chair. Internet mistook them for a photoshopped meme or an instrument of torture and needed to put out a statement clarifying that it was in fact a real product.

If you take a look at the photo, you’ll be confused too! However, Factory-M states that you can actually sit on it if you have the money to buy it.

Koichi Hasegawa is the founder and owner of factory-M, and they told reporters that he came up with the idea for this bizarre office chair while on a trip to the United States. He had gone there to find natural stones to bring home to Japan. Upon seeing this large L-shaped piece of amethyst, he imagined it processed into a chair, and decided to make his idea turn into reality.

The amethyst got its pointy shards ground down to make sitting on the stone safe. However, it still doesn’t look very comfortable. The chair has the amethysts sitting on a reinforced metal frame and factory-M claims that it can easily support a sumo wrestler!

This one-of-a-kind object is quite heavy too. The piece of semiprecious stone alone weighs a staggering 88 kilograms, and with the metal frame included, the weight of the chair goes up to 99 kilograms. You have the option to roll it around as obviously you cannot lift it.

The asking price for this unique piece of art is 450,000 yen for its unusual, uncomfortable-looking office chair, and Koichi Hasegawa claims that several individuals and companies have expressed interest in acquiring it.
