U-Boat Worx, a renowned manufacturer of submersibles, has made a splash at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show with the unveiling of their latest creation: the Super Sub. This three-person submersible represents a fusion of advanced technology, top-notch safety features, and a sleek design, offering a thrilling underwater experience.
The Super Sub sets itself apart with its remarkable capabilities. With a substantial 100 kW of thrust, it can achieve speeds of up to 10 knots, making it one of the swiftest submersibles in its class. Its agility distinguishes it—capable of ascending and descending at inclines of up to 45 degrees and executing rapid banking turns, it promises a dynamic and immersive underwater journey. Roy Heijdra, Marketing Manager at U-Boat Worx, highlighted, “The Super Sub’s speed of 10 knots is three to four knots faster than the top cruising speed of a bottlenose dolphin and seven knots faster than the average submersible.” This agility allows passengers to glide alongside marine life like sea turtles, sharks, dolphins, and barracudas, providing a backstage VIP pass to the underwater world.
During the Super Sub’s design phase, a paramount focus was ensuring an unobstructed view of the underwater world. To achieve this, a fully acrylic pressure hull is positioned at the front of the submersible, providing a panoramic view free from interference by ballast tanks, batteries, or other components.
Safety is of paramount importance in U-Boat Worx creations, and the Super Sub is no exception. It comes equipped with cutting-edge safety systems, including a ‘maximum depth protection’ feature that prevents the submersible from descending beyond its certified depth. In case of emergency, the Safety Buoy, a distinctive feature of U-Boat Worx submersibles, can be released to mark the submarine’s position on the surface. Furthermore, the sub is stocked with a minimum of 96 hours of life support, ensuring the well-being of its occupants.
The Super Sub is set to be delivered to its client by the end of 2023, with the next unit scheduled for delivery in October 2024 and currently available for sale, starting at a price of €5.2 million. This remarkable submersible promises to redefine underwater exploration with its blend of cutting-edge technology, safety features, and thrilling capabilities, making it a standout addition to U-Boat Worx’s portfolio.
