Inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) were not able to find any evidence that could indicate activities related to creating the “dirty bomb” in Ukraine.
Representatives of the IAEA did a thorough check of three Ukrainian nuclear energy facilities. They confirmed the result of the official investigation which was done according to the request of the Ukrainian government.
“IAEA inspectors have completed in-field verification activities at three locations in Ukraine at the request of the Ukrainian government — found no indications of undeclared nuclear activities and materials,” wrote IAEA on its Twitter account.
IAEA also confirmed that they had entirely free access to the zones of inspection. Experts looked for any signs of undeclared nuclear activities or the presence of undeclared nuclear materials. They also acquired samples from the facilities and environment for a comprehensive laboratory analysis.
“Our technical and scientific evaluation of the results we have so far did not show any sign of undeclared nuclear activities and materials at these three locations. Additionally, we will report on the results of the environmental sampling as soon as possible,” said IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.
