Slow Motion Image Shows Drag Racer Exploding At 300 MPH

This year at the National Hot Rod Association’s (NHRA) Winternationals held at Pomona, driver Ron Capps got a more exciting race than he was expecting. Capps’ NAPA Auto Parts Dodge Charger funny car turned into a fireball when an engine failure caused it to explode at speeds of about 300 miles per hour.

The rear section of the car was blown away due to the explosion, but luckily Capps was unharmed. Equally surprising was the fact that none of the spectators were harmed from all the debris formed by the exploding panels. Despite an experience which was sure to cause his whole life to flash before his eyes, Capps said, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, he slept well that night.
