This particular gadget by Sony was announced back in 2019 and is finally available for sale. It is a wearable, pocket-sized air conditioner that is called Reon Pocket. It can also work as a heater during the winter as per Sony’s website.
Temperatures are rising higher than ever now thus making the idea of a portable and wearable air conditioner too tempting to say no to, right? Sony’s Reon Pocket can be activated and controlled by its smartphone app. It relies on thermoelectric cooling to operate. Sony has also confirmed that it can be used as a personal heater – so, that’s a win-win situation right there!
The Reon Pocket can bring down the user’s body temperature by 13 degrees Celsius while also being capable of increasing the body temperature by about 8 degrees Celsius. The device utilizes Bluetooth for connecting to the smartphone app and is about the size of a card-holding wallet. It can slip into a special undershirt that has a pocket at the base of the neck. Users will be able to control the temperature using their smartphone once the Reon Pocket has connected to the app.
It supports iOS and Android and comes equipped with a battery that can last for 90 minutes after a two-hour charge time. Visually speaking, it resembles an Apple mouse and weighs in at only 85 grams and features USB-C. The device made its debut back in 2019 with Sony planning to launch it just before the Tokyo Olympics happened. Although they won’t be keeping to their timeline, Sony has released the gadget nonetheless. You can purchase it for a price of $130 and is currently available for sale on plenty of Japanese sites.
Sony has aimed for a sleek and minimalistic gadget that offers optimal comfort. We’ll have to, however, wait and see how it performs in the market and whether users are inclined towards buying it or not.
