Millions of Americans Think That Chocolate Milk Comes From Brown Cows – Latest Survey Reveals

Unless you are lactose intolerant or vegan, dairy is one of the most important part of our daily diet, all across the world. We really appreciate the presence of milk in our lives, after all, it has brought us the delicious gifts of cheese, yogurt, chocolate milk and what not? It is common knowledge that most of the milk that we consume comes from cows but did you ever wonder if the type of milk from different kind of cows varies?

Apparently, a lot of Americans think that chocolate milk actually comes from brown cows. My only question is, why aren’t they called chocolate cows then? A lot of people go to the Innovation Center for US Dairy’s website and ask the innocent question, “Does chocolate milk come from brown cows?” They being the patient and polite people simply answer, “Actually, chocolate milk – or any flavored milk for that matter – is white cow’s milk with added flavoring and sweeteners.”

American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture

Not everyone is capable of digesting that kind of an answer, so the Innovation Center for US Dairy conducted a survey asking 1,000 American adults (18 and above), and the results are kind of funny.

Of all the survey participants, 48% said that they were not even sure where chocolate milk comes from. Kind of a mystery eh?

If you forgot, we are talking about grown up adults, and not children or even teenagers. Surprise! 7% of them still think that chocolate milk comes from brown cows.

We have no idea how much of a rocket science is it to know that milk gets its chocolate flavor from cocoa beans and not the cow’s brown fur but what do we know? Where does strawberry milk come from? Pink cows? Oh and what if the blue cheese comes from blue cows too?

The Burning Platform

If you multiply this number, it implies that about 16.4 million people think that chocolate milk, in fact, comes from brown cows. But it would be very mean to generalize the entire population as dumb, so we’d stick to thinking that a bunch of grown up US adults have no idea about the milk.
