Men Are Freezing Their Sperms From Fear Of COVID-19

The existential anxieties coupled with the survival instinct is driving men left and right while they continue to purchase at-home collection kits for the sake of freezing their sperm. Why? Because they are afraid that COVID-19 will make them unable to have kids although there is no study that can confirm if the virus even poses a threat to fertility.

The industry comprised of various companies that sell their products to the men in the form of preservable sample collection kits and return postage, conduct lab tests on the returned cups and claim that they will cryogenically store viable seed has always been a flourishing a market. However, the business is actually growing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CryoChoice is an at-home sperm collection firm that has witnessed a sales jump of at least 20 % during the recent weeks. Another at-home sperm collection startup, Legacy, claims that their regular order volume has gone by 10 times during the pandemic. Other companies are also reporting huge increases in the number of men that are busy collecting their sperm and shipping it back for cryogenic preservation. They are also stocking up on long-term storage space as well!

There is no concrete evidence that suggests that COVID-19 has any adverse effects on fertility. However, American men are still focused on making sure that their seeds are protected. Although one of the main symptoms of COVID-19 is fear, studies have concluded that the disruption caused by fever is short term. Check out the following graph from a study that was published in the journal Fertility and Sterility that depicts the short-lived effects of fever on sperm.

So, it can be safely assumed that most of the viral diseases actually don’t lead to infertility and there’s no reason for you to be panic-submitting your sperm to be cryogenically preserved. What do you think of this?
