Lenovo Unveils World’s First Foldable PC

Succeeding Samsung’s attempt to introduce a foldable smartphone, Lenovo, the Chinese PC maker, hits up with a folding PC at CES. Unveiling it in Las Vegas, the company assures its sale till the mid-2020s.  What holds it unique is the flexibility and portability it has been designed with.

Lenovo’s ThinkPad X1 Fold

ThinkPad X1 Fold has a 13.3 inch OLED touchscreen that offers a resolution of 2048 x 1536. It has also been equipped with a mini Bluetooth keyboard that can be operated wirelessly or by attaching it on to the lower side of the screen via magnets, forming a mini laptop. Removing the physical keyboard, the device holds an option of a virtual keyboard as well, making it work like a tablet. The company is confident in the design parameters keeping in view the stresses placed on the screen while folding it, for which a multi-link hinge mechanism has been used.

 Other fascinating features include Intel Core processors with Hybrid Technology, 8 GB of RAM and compatibility for 5G and available with Windows 10. Initially, the cost is estimated to be $2,499. The gadget is made of lightweight alloys and carbon fiber, all covered inside a leather folio. Combining it all the weight hardly crosses 2.2 pounds, pretty fair!

The tablet-like look

As it morphs through multiple modes, from a small footprint device into a fully flat 13.3-inch display, X1 Fold will deliver laptop efficiency with smartphone portability,” Lenovo said.

When the PC is closed, the keyboard gets charged inside the system, sandwiching between the two screens. Users can watch their favorite show with the OLED display or use the Active Pen to scroll through their notes. It can also connect to a full-size mouse or a second display via a USB. All design specifications have been carefully blended to enhance productivity and offer the best user experience.

Creating the world’s first foldable PC is a major engineering challenge, but Lenovo is more than up to the task,” said Christian Teismann, president, commercial PC and Smart Device Business at Lenovo.

The panel has been provided by LG, a fruitful result of a four-year collaboration. As Lenovo promises a no compromise on quality policy, the designers also guarantee for the gadget’s durability. The curved design, when folded, makes it look a book in your hand, and a desktop when placed openly in front of you. The device shall also be made available for Windows 10X, well, when to expect that, hasn’t been declared yet.

The portable size of the screen leads the list when mentioning the pros of this design.
