Sony has unveiled the latest version of its wearable cooling device, the Reon Pocket Pro Plus, a neck-mounted personal climate control system designed to help users stay comfortable during summer heatwaves without carrying a handheld fan.

Worn discreetly beneath clothing, the device uses a stainless steel cooling panel positioned against the upper back to lower the wearer’s body temperature. The updated model delivers up to 20% greater cooling performance than its predecessor while maintaining a battery life of up to 10 hours on standard settings.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is held in place by an adjustable neckband, with the cooling unit sitting behind the neck under clothing. Built-in sensors monitor skin temperature, while a separate wireless Pocket Tag tracks ambient temperature and humidity, allowing the system to automatically adjust cooling levels based on environmental conditions.

Unlike portable fans that cool the surrounding air, Sony’s approach focuses on direct body cooling. Users report that although the cooling plate only touches a small area of the upper back, the effect can help regulate overall body temperature, providing a more immediate sensation of relief in hot conditions.

The latest model also introduces several design improvements. Sony has strengthened the neckband for better stability during movement and redesigned the ventilation system to direct expelled heat away from the wearer’s body and clothing. While the device remains visible under lighter garments, it is intended to be significantly less obtrusive than carrying external cooling equipment.

Beyond summer use, the Reon Pocket can also function as a wearable heater during colder months, making it a year-round personal climate control device rather than a seasonal gadget.

The product reflects a growing trend toward wearable technologies that augment personal comfort and wellness. As heatwaves become more frequent in many regions, companies are increasingly exploring alternatives to traditional cooling methods that consume more energy or require stationary infrastructure.

The Reon Pocket Pro Plus is available in the UK for £199 and across Europe for €229. A US launch has not yet been confirmed, though pricing is expected to be around $270 if the device reaches the American market.
