Is Your iPhone 7s Emitting Strange Hissing Sounds? Here’s Why!

Are you one of those disgruntled Apple users whose iPhone7s is hissing? You are not the only one who is facing this issue. In fact, multiple reports of a hissing iPhone7s have surfaced on the social media.

When iPhone 7s s pushed to the limits of its processing power, hissing sounds, like the ones heard in the clip below, are emitted by the handset.

The issue was reported by several users including Darrell Etherington of TechCrunch and Stephen Hackett of 512 Pixels.

So what is it all about? For now, quite a few theories regarding the hissing sounds emanating from the iPhone 7s have been put forward.

Electromagnetic effects like coil whine have been suggested by some. However, Jon Fingas pointed out that the problem is not universal:

“[He] tested an iPhone 7 using 3DMark ‘Ice Storm Extreme,’ a performance benchmark that puts the processor under serious strain, and heard no hissing at all.”

The iOS developer and writer Marco Arment believes that the cooling system of the iPhone is the culprit.

“It’s the phone equivalent of hearing the fans spin up loudly whenever your Mac’s CPU gets used to its actual potential.”

Some other sources have also suggested that it could be a problem involving some sort of interference in the speakers or the RF transmission.

Apple has thus far refrained from commenting on the problem. However, Stephen Hackett has already been offered an iPhone 7s replacement.
