Google’s Atlas Robot Can Pick Things And Stand Up After Falling Down

You’ve all heard about Boston Dynamics, the famous robotic company that was bought by Google and has been creating some amazing robots that are bagging records and what not. The company has recently unveiled a new video that shows off their latest version of the robot Atlas. Atlas is a humanoid robot and from what we can see in the video, it is quite incredible to say the least. Rather than being a clumsy robot that we’re used to see in real life, Atlas has achieved amazing balance and agility.
Atlas, The Robot, Will NOT Stay Down! 5

Atlas’ latest version is not only capable of walking on rough terrain but is also capable of squatting down, picking up boxes and placing them on shelves. In fact, you can even have a go at it with a hockey stick and it will maintain its balance. That’s not all, yes there’s more; if you make it fall, Atlas will stand back up. What can we say? Atlas is a winner folks.

This version of the robot is powered electrically and uses hydraulics for its actuation. The sensors in its body allow Atlas to keep itself balanced whereas the LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head help it in avoiding obstacles and assessing the terrain to help out with navigation. It is about 5’9” in height and weighs in at 180 pounds.

You can see it in action in the video below and let us know what you think of it.
