An architecture company has developed a new kind of roof that can collect rainwater and use it to cool your house at the same time. The newly developed roof has been named Concave Roof and is basically a unique bowl-shaped roof. It serves dual purposes for people who are living in hot and arid climates; offering free water and free air conditioning.
The Concave Roof has been designed to ‘help even the smallest quantities of rain flow down the roof and eventually coalesce into bigger drops, just right for harvesting before they evaporate’, according to the talented architects who have designed it.
The design of Concave Roof comes from BMDesign Studios that is an Iranian architecture company. The shape of this fantastic roof is not only ideal for maximizing water collection but also provides shade and airflow between itself and the interior layer of the roof of the structure. This enables it to help keep the house below cool. The bowl roof also offers an amazing cooling feature. The water that is collected by it gets stored in tanks in the walls of the house, thus cooling the walls and insulating the home.
BMDesign Studios is hopeful that the design will help with providing water security in parts of the world that receive less than a third of the annual rainfall average for the rest of the globe. The company is currently working on a school structure to serve as a prototype. The building will be able to collect and store more than 7,000 gallons of water using 10,000 square feet of rooftop.
It is a well-known fact that we all need to focus on water conservation. However, it is also crucial for us to learn how to store water and not let it go to waste. Concave Roof is one of the projects that is focused on the collection and storage of water. What do you think of this project? Do let us know!
