Kola Superdeep Borehole is the deepest manmade hole on Earth. It stretches around 40,230ft-deep, 12.2km, its a drilling project of the Soviet Union in the Pechengsky District, on the Kola Peninsula.

Everyone knows about the space race of developed nations such as the U.S, Russia, Canada, and Germany, etc. You might not have heard of the drilling race that these nations have with each other.

The core purpose of the project is to drill as deep as it could get towards the earth’s crust. The way humans have traveled to space and returned with a lot of new knowledge about the galaxies, stars, and other planets. The same sort is desired with drilling deep to find out what’s deep underneath the earth’s crust.
