The tonight show starring Jimmy Fallon has showcased some of the best robot technology emerging these days. The robots he showcased included a mini-cheetah and Tomatan, a wearable robot which feeds you tomatoes during your jogging. However, the highlight is still Sophia the Robot developed by Hanson Robotics. Just like many of his other guests, Jimmy Fallon and Sophia also sang a duet together. The host and the robot sang a beautiful version of “Say Something” by A Great Big World.
The performance went amazingly well and without a single hitch. However, it is up to you to decide if it was cool that Sophia was able to sing a duet or creepy. Sophia, a humanoid robot, was developed by Hanson Robotics, a Hong Kong-based company. She made her first public premiere at the 2016 South by Southwest Festival (SXSW). Sophia can show more than 50 expressions. She was made an official citizen of Saudi Arabia in 2017. Later on, in the same year, she was named as the UN Development Programme’s first Innovation Champion. This is the first UN prize given to a non-human entity. Sophia also has a popular Twitter account where she often posts about her public speaking engagements and shares other words of advice as well.
