Shocking news just came out of Tehran that a Ukranian passenger aircraft carrying 18 passengers just crashed minutes after taking off from Tehran Airport. As of the latest updates, all the passengers are killed.
Iranian civil aviation spokesman told reporters “After taking off from Imam Khomeini international airport it crashed between Parand and Shahriar, An investigation team from the national aviation department was dispatched to the location after the news was announced.”
Flightradar24 also shows that a Ukranian 737-800 flown by Ukraine International Airlines took from Tehran and crashed almost minutes afterwards. The crash comes at a sensitive time after tensions in the region are at an all-time high. Only hours before, Iran had launched a ballistic missile attack at two bases in Iraq that house US forces. It is unclear if there is a connection between the two news as of yet.
Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer refused to comment on the news. Boeing, like any other manufacturer, usually assists in Air crash investigations, however, that effort, in this case, could be hampered by the US sanctions in place for Iran. Decades of international sanctions have made Iran’s commercial aircraft almost unfit for flying with aged parts and bad maintenance.
