Wearable technology has come a long way and nowadays you can witness a number of innovations produced in this industry. The latest of which is Cicret – a wristband that is capable of transforming your forearm into a touchscreen.
The device was conceptualized about a year back and has been designed in a time period of 6 months. The Cicret Bracelet is made up of a pico projector and an array of 8 proximity sensors that are pointed towards the intended target, which is the user’s forearm. It is activated by a mere twist of the wrist and once activated, it transmits an interface onto the user’s forearm – an Android based interface. The proximity sensors are used to ascertain where the user places his or her fingers and therefore, allows the user to interact like with any other Android interface.
Cicret also consists of an accelerometer and a module for vibrations while being equipped with LED for notifications. It connects via Wi-Fi, micro USB port and bluetooth. As per the developers, the device will support 16 GB and 32 GB models. It will enable users to receive and send emails while allowing them to surf the Internet and play games too. Users will be able to pair with their smartphones, meaning they can pick up inbound calls and activate the speakerphone on the respective smartphone.
Currently the gadget is raising funds to finance its further development. However, the Cicret co-founder Guillaume Pommier speculates that it will take about another 1.5 years for the device to hit the market. Cicret would cost around $400. According to Pommier, the first prototype will completed in 3 weeks.
What we are interested to know is the fact that how well this gadget will perform. Are we expecting a messy interface that doesn’t respond well to our touch or something really unique and amazing? Time shall tell!
