More than 3500 Swedes have themselves chipped with an NFC (Near Field Communication) chip. This is nothing new for the Swedes since they have always been open to the technology. The size of the chip is same as the size of a rice grain. These are implanted in the skin between the thumb and forefinger.
The Swedish Government has invested a lot of money in the technology in the past two decades. Their economy shows huge digital exports, digital tech innovations, and digital services. Sweden is at the top of the list when it comes to the export of digital products. There can be drawbacks to this tech as well since the NFC chip can give a lot of information like location and the time which you spend anywhere. This information can be misused by the advertisers to target their potential customers. Sweden has a history of charing the personal details, this is perhaps the reason that the Swedes have accepted this technology easily.
