Cleaning the litter box is one of the less glamorous aspects of cat ownership, especially in homes with multiple cats or larger breeds that need more space. But for years, pet tech companies have been working to simplify this. Dutch company Petlux has stepped into the spotlight with its latest release, the V3: a feature-packed, extra-large automatic litter box designed to reduce mess and maintenance for busy cat parents.
The Petlux V3 sets a new benchmark in the self-cleaning litter box category with its sheer size and thoughtful engineering. With a spacious 100-liter drum measuring 19 inches (48 cm) in diameter, the V3 is tailored for larger cats like Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and Norwegian Forest cats, giving them enough room to comfortably dig and bury their waste.
Its capacity doesn’t stop there. The unit can hold up to 24 pounds (11 kg) of waste, allowing it to serve multiple cats for up to 7 to 10 days before needing to be emptied. That makes it an ideal solution for households with several furry residents.

The V3’s construction also stands out for its seamless, waterproof design. This eliminates the need for mats or external protection against leaks. It’s compatible with most clumping litters, including bentonite, corn-based pellets, and activated carbon. However, users are advised to avoid gel and wood pellet varieties.
Odor control is another built-in perk, thanks to a filter that lasts up to two months before needing replacement. When it’s time to clean out the bin, users can choose between a reusable stainless steel tray or biodegradable cardboard trays—no plastic bags required.
In addition to its hardware, the V3 is equipped with a companion mobile app. Through it, cat owners can schedule cleaning cycles, track their pet’s litter box activity, and even monitor their cat’s weight over time. This health-conscious integration adds an extra layer of value for those who like to stay on top of their pet’s wellbeing.

Petlux plans to retail the V3 for $710 (€650), but early adopters can secure one through Kickstarter for as low as $408 (€370). The litter box will be offered in matte black or white finishes. While this puts it in a higher price bracket compared to alternatives like the $300 BCHARYA or the $480 Neakasa M1, the V3’s size and smart features help justify the premium.
Petlux is no newcomer to the pet tech space. The company already offers other self-cleaning litter box models through its official website, lending credibility to its latest crowdfunding effort.
If all goes according to plan, shipping is expected to begin in August.
