The Carice TC2 two-seater convertible is a lovely and nostalgic car that can occupy a niche in the constantly evolving world of electric vehicles (EVs), which are dominated by sleek, futuristic looks. Many electric vehicles have a clinical, high-tech look that may turn off some consumers, but the TC2 stands out by embracing the nostalgic appeal of the past.

The TC2, which is made by Dutch EV pioneer Carice, is a charming example of retro design that looks like it was crossed between a Porsche 356 and a Nissan Figaro. Established in 2011 as a spinoff from Delft University of Technology, Carice has a track record of producing electric automobiles made-to-order in small quantities.

With dimensions of 3,500 mm in length, 1,580 mm in width, and 1,220 mm in height, the TC2 is a lightweight model that weighs only 590 kg. The body panels, which are made of a special composite material, add to the vehicle’s remarkable light weight. Customers have the choice of normal or long-range battery packs, which provide 200 and 300 km of range per charge, respectively. The battery can be recharged to 80% with just a 2.7-hour charge through the Type 2 connection.

Underneath its retro exterior, the TC2 features an electric motor with a peak power of 41 kilowatts, propelling it to an electronically limited top speed of 120 km/h. Although acceleration figures are not disclosed, Carice CEO Richard Holleman emphasizes the driving experience, noting the low seating position and center of gravity, combined with a favorable power-to-weight ratio, eliciting smiles from drivers.

The interior of the TC2 adds to its allure, featuring vegan leather upholstery, a brushed-stainless-steel dash adorned with toggle switches, and a hardwood steering wheel. Despite its throwback aesthetics, the TC2 incorporates modern eco-friendly materials.

With a limited production run and the current batch already sold out, enthusiasts can still secure a spot in the next production run, promising delivery in a few months. Pricing for the Carice TC2 starts at €44,500, making it an attractive option for those seeking a unique, retro-inspired electric driving experience.
