In the not-so-distant past, those who enjoyed observing wildlife and engaging in outdoor adventures during nighttime were limited to capturing their experiences through black and white or green-tinted visuals. However, recent advancements in sensor technology have revolutionized this field, introducing vibrant colors to the mix.
Emerging onto this scene is Rovaom, a pioneering startup that has harnessed the power of a Sony sensor to create a night-vision camera, enabling the capture of high-resolution color footage regardless of the time of day.
Central to its design, the angular camera closely resembles the offering of its predecessor, last year’s Duovox Mate Pro. However, Rovaom distinguishes itself by incorporating a distinct Sony night-vision image sensor. This remarkable sensor boasts the ability to record images at an impressive 7,552 x 4,248 pixel resolution, and video footage at 3,840 x 2,160 resolution, utilizing either H.264 or H.265 video encoding. This capability extends seamlessly from day to night, ensuring optimal performance in various lighting conditions.
The camera is equipped with a cutting-edge “professional starlight 1.0 night-vision lens.” This, coupled with its remarkable 40x optical zoom and additional 10x digital zoom, empowers users to capture intricate details of nocturnal subjects.
For precise control over image brightness, a seven-level IR illuminator is incorporated, enhancing the overall visual experience. Framing shots is facilitated by a 4.5-inch OLED display located on the rear of the camera, boasting a resolution of 480 x 960 pixels. Furthermore, the camera includes an integrated microphone, allowing users to enhance their captured videos with audio.
To address storage needs, the camera features a media card slot that can accommodate up to 512 GB of storage. The initial package includes a 64-GB TF card. Connectivity options abound, with a USB-C port and wireless capabilities, enabling seamless sharing of captured footage to a smartphone app. This, in turn, allows for instantaneous sharing on social media platforms. The camera’s operational autonomy is impressive, thanks to its 3,000-mAh battery, providing up to 4.5 hours of usage time before requiring a recharge.
Rovaom has embarked on a Kickstarter campaign to secure funding for production. Pledges for this innovative device start at $299, though potential backers are advised to exercise the customary caution associated with crowdfunding endeavors. Assuming all proceeds according to plan, global shipping from the manufacturing facility in China is projected to commence as early as November.
