Swimming pools are fun, don’t you agree? Speaking of swimming pools, do you know which one is the largest in the world? Today’s post is about the largest swimming pool in the world located in Algarrobo, Chile at San Alfonso del Mar. It enjoys the title of largest swimming pool by area as per Guinness World Record. It is 13 meters more than a kilometer and covers an area of 20 acres while having a maximum depth of 35.1 m.
The pool has a capacity of 250 million liters of seawater that is supplied to it via Pacific Ocean by making use of a computer-controlled suction and filtration system. This water is treated before it is allowed to enter the pool. Fernando Fischmann, owner of Crystal Lagoon, developed the pool. It started back in December 2006 and according to estimates and speculations; the cost of the pool is $1.5-2 billion while the maintenance cost per year rounds up to about $4 million.
It sure is gigantic when you look at the world’s second largest pool by the nickname of Big Splash and realize that it is only 135 meters long and about 90 meters wide. According to Fischmann, it is advanced engineering that allowed his company to build ‘an impressive artificial paradise’ even in areas that are inhospitable. He further said; ‘As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean.’
The water is heated by the sun up to 26 degrees Celsius that is almost 9 degrees higher than the temperature of the adjoining sea. Guests can make use of inflatable beds or carry out watersports that include kayaking, jet-skiing, yachting and what not. You can even get a lilly pad with trampoline and slide to have fun in the swimming pool. The water is clear like crystal and one can easily see the bottom although it is 35 meters below. If you think days are fun and spectacular, wait till you see this swimming pool at night.
