This Is How The World’s Fastest Heat Conductor Works

Do you know which material is the world’s fastest heat-conducting material? For those of you who do not know, the fastest heat-conducting material in the world is a heat pipe. We have decided to feature a video that comes from the famous YouTube user, The Action Lab. In this video, the YouTube user explains the working of a heat pipe.

The Action Lab will help you understand why a heat pipe is capable of functioning so quickly. For this particular video, the heat pipe and the copper rod are placed under a heat-detecting material. An ice cube is then introduced to the mix by placing it on top of the respective pipes. This step is carried out to demonstrate just how quickly the heat pipe can conduct the temperature. For the heat pipe, the process is almost instantaneous.

But let’s talk numbers, shall? The heat pipe is two orders of magnitude faster as opposed to a copper rod. Copper is capable of transferring heat at 0.4 kilowatts per Meter-Kelvin. Whereas, the heat pipe can transfer heat at 100 kilowatts per Meter-Kelvin. That is quite a different, wouldn’t you agree? The Action Lab didn’t just stop at this demonstration. The YouTube user opens up the end of the heat pipe and bent the ends away from one another. This exposed the spongy inner pipe that was housed within it.

The heat pipe is also made from copper, but its property of insanely-quick heat-conducting can be attributed to the water vapor that is inside of it. By pushing the water from one side to another quickly, the pipe can be heated. The magic happens when the heat pipe continuously pushes the cold and hot from one end of the pipe to the other end. This particular kind of heat pipe is utilized in different devices, including computers.
