This EV By Mercedes Benz Has Completed A 1,000 Km Journey On A Single Charge

Mercedes-Benz has announced that its Vision EQXX electric concept car completed a 1,000-kilometer long-range test on a single charge. It was one of the longest distances an electric car could travel on a single charge.

The trip began in Germany and then went through Switzerland and Italy until arriving in Cassis, a port town near Marseille in southern France. The automobile averaged 54 miles per hour, and temperatures ranged from 3 to 18 degrees Celsius.

The distance travelled was “over” 1,000 kilometres which is more than twice the normal range of today’s electric vehicles. The Vision EQXX’s charge level on arrival was around 15%, leaving the vehicle with a remaining range of around 140 km. The average consumption was an all-time low of 8.7 kWh per 100 km, according to the company.

The real-world range test is a major boost for Mercedes, which previously claimed that the Vision EQXX would spend 10kWh per 100 kilometres or more than 6 miles per kWh. However, those tests were conducted using a simulation of real-world traffic scenarios, which the Vision EQXX outperformed in genuine real-world settings.

Mercedes stated that the Vision EQXX’s greater range is “absolutely realistic” and that many of its technology advances will be integrated into future production vehicles via the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture. The outcomes of the real-world tests will support those statements.

A range estimate, after all, is just an estimate. It will be up to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the United States and Europe’s Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) to officially certify any EV range.

The EV range is totally subjective. Even the EPA’s rating system is only intended to provide a glimpse of the agency’s testing process under specified conditions. For example, it usually eliminates elements like steep hill climbing or cold weather, which can wear out a vehicle’s battery considerably faster than driving on level roads or in warmer weather.

On Mercedes’ part, the manufacturer did not conduct its range test under ideal conditions. The course involved mountainous terrain, as well as other risks. Nevertheless, the vast temperature range aided in demonstrating the Vision EQXX’s capabilities in several settings. In addition, the car was not subjected to snow or cold temperatures, which have been known to drain the energy from an EV battery.
