No, they don’t sell the coronavirus, nor did they make it so hear me out before you start asking for the CEO of COVID-19, wanting to ‘just talk’. The fact that there is a company named Covid. inc is just a complete coincidence. The company isn’t even a medical-related organization. It actually sells high-quality audio-visual wall plates and cables. They’ve been operating for more than four decades so it’s also safe to assume that they didn’t copy the name.
Covid. inc is based in Tempe, Arizona. Its audio-visual products are sold all over the world, albeit they usually do it through distributors and dealers so that’s why no one ever really knew about them. It only took a pandemic for them to start making headlines. Guess you can never know how fame can hit you.
The company’s CEO is Norm Carson and he vividly remembers the first time he learned that they shared the name of the virus that caused the latest pandemic and is currently taking lives all over the world. He recalled that he and his team were at an audiovisual show in Amsterdam in February 2020, on the day that the name Covid-19 was uttered for the first time, and Carson remembers posing for countless pictures in front of his company’s sign at their booth.
Who wouldn’t want to take a picture with COVID 19? Carson said that “We went in that day thinking we’d see some customers, do some training and it’d be a regular day. And then before you knew it, they had announced the name”. Needless to say that this didn’t lead to any shortage of funny encounters. Carson recalled a few moments and said that people would randomly drive through the gates after seeing the sign on the company’s building and ask for Covid-19 tests.
Some people would even joke about it and suggest some good taglines for the Company, though I doubt they need one anymore. Carson said that “You know, we get a lot of customers who always want to come up with our new taglines”.
“‘Covid, we had it first.’ Or ‘The only thing that’s contagious is our quality.’ We get all kinds of jokes from people. And a lot of people call and they talk to us and they just, ‘can you believe that?’ And you just smile a little bit and say, ‘yeah,’ and you just tell some of the stories that have happened because of it.”.
Another funny titbit would that the Company was actually supposed to named Video Company or Vidco for short, however, a name like that was very common. Many other companies had similar names. It was until a UPS driver suggested to name the company Covid instead. I’m sure no one ever knew that this would happen in the future.
The name has given the company a lot of attention and I’m sure they won’t be changing their name anytime soon. I mean, It is free real estate.
