This City In Myanmar Is 6 Times The Size Of New York City But No One Lives There

Normally, when you hear of a capital city, it is where you would expect all the action to be. But, Naypyidaw in Myanmar is a complete opposite of that. The huge city is more than six times the size of New York and is a complete ghost town.

The capital of Myanmar was Yangon or Rangoon until ten years ago and was suddenly shifted to Naypyidaw without any explanation.

Naypyidaw is probably the strangest city on Earth as it has the capacity to hold a million people but is practically a ghost town.

People living in Myanmar didn’t even know where this city was when it was suddenly made the capital and nobody knows when construction was started here and who started it. It used to be miles of jungles before.

Myanmar is governed by a strict military regime so those questions might never be answered and not many pictures of the capital exist as westerners are forbidden from going there and the pictures available are those taken by the government or some approved tourists.

The population is next to nothing and only a few government workers are seen about on the wide roads.

The capital must have cost billions of dollars to build and it is still a ghost town and people are more often seen walking on highways rather than driving on them.

The government claims the capital to have a population of 924,000 but the photographs tell a completely different story.
