This Bike Doesn’t Need You To Carry A Lock Thanks To Its Rectangular Handlebar

Bicycles are something that everyone can afford and use as a means of commute. In addition to being cheap and eco-friendly, they also have a higher chance of being stolen. This can really put off people from owning one. Luckily enough, a collaboration between two Seattle-based firms has produced a solution. They have created a bike having handlebars that can be used as a bike lock. This means that the cyclists won’t have to carry a bike lock along with them at all times.
The Denny bike 3

The Denny bike has a number of features as compared to any ordinary bike; one being the smart lock and it also includes some safety features such as automatic gear shifting, built-in lights and a motor to help the cyclists go uphill.

The design that was made by Teague and Sizemore Bicycle design firms, won the Oregon Manifest’s Bike Design Project with an aim to create the ultimate urban bike. According to its creators, “The Denny bike is about returning the rider…to those early days of carefree riding when cycling was just about ‘get up and go’ freedom – the reason we all fell in love with bikes in the first place.”

Their inspiration was to create a bike whose riders won’t have to worry about the hills, rain or a sudden visit to the market. It was designed to be suitable for use by the people living in Seattle. The bike features rectangular handlebars that can be in turn used as a security lock by the rider, hence one can easily lock the bike with a railing in a number of ways. The best part is that the rider won’t even have to carry a separate locking mechanism for the bike. It also features an electric motor to help the cyclist on steep roads or along flat surfaces as well if they are feeling lazy.

The automatic gearing system changes gears automatically so that the cyclist can maintain a steady speed, similarly as the professional cyclists do. The LED lights are also powered by a battery that is slim and can be easily carried in a bag for recharging. The brake light brightens up while braking, as in all other automobiles and bikes.

The Denny bike also features indicators that are activated using the left or right brake. It also features a number of other perks that make it easy to use on a daily basis such as Elasticated net storage and little brushes with the mudguards that protect the rider from being splashed. The designers at Sizemore Bicycle claim, “Denny is the “all in” cycling solution that meets security, safety and important convenience needs.”

While the design started as a concept, it will be available to buy next year via Fuji Bikes, although no price has been announced yet.
