The launch of the hydrogen fuel station marks the beginning of a new chapter in environmentally friendly transportation, as demonstrated by the Hyundai XCIENT fuel-cell tractors and Nikola hydrogen trucks, both of which will be based in Oakland.
Collaborations with cutting-edge businesses like Quantron and collaborations with major players in the industry like Cummins, Bosch, Daimler, Toyota, and Volvo represent a group effort to advance fuel-cell hydrogen trucks. Leading this initiative as the world’s foremost provider of hydrogen refuelling station systems is FirstElement Fuel (FEF).
With its cutting-edge infrastructure, FEF’s hydrogen refuelling station enables quick refuelling—a truck’s hydrogen tanks can be filled in as little as ten minutes. This effectiveness means that 200 trucks are serviced every day, guaranteeing smooth operations for commercial vehicle fleets.
Gov. Gavin Newsom’s business development office advisor on clean transportation, Tyson Eckerle, emphasises the critical role that government backing plays in advancing the “hydrogen economy”. California is prepared to open as many as 60 new hydrogen truck stations, serving a fleet of 5,000 trucks and 1,000 buses, thanks to significant federal funds dedicated to the project.
A strategic relationship between FirstElement Fuel and Nikola Corporation further reinforces the industry’s momentum towards clean transportation. Due to a final 10-year contract, Nikola’s hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks can utilise FEF’s cutting-edge station, which is strategically located close to the port in Oakland, for refuelling.
