The Discus Tower Is Made Up Of 30 Stories Of Stacked Irregular Disks

The Nacks district in Sweden’s capital city Stockholm is a busy area where the big city ends and the Stockholm Archipelago starts. The already busy area is about to become even busier as the Discus Tower is set to go up here as a symbol of its new modernity and growth.

There are almost 100,000 people that currently live in Nacka and the number is expected to increase to 140,000 by 2030. The place, now known as Nacka City is planned to have three new metro stations, 10,000 new workplaces, and 14,000 new homes before that population boom.

Discus tower will be the first high-rise building in Nacka City and has been designed by Swedish architecture firm Belatchew Arkitekter. It will be constructed in the heart of Nacka City right above the metro station in what will be the new city centre.

The discus tower will be spread over 30 floors and will house somewhere between 450 to 500 apartments of different sizes. It will also have commercial and public facilities. The city officials believe that the stack of irregular disks will become an iconic piece of architecture in a new and vibrant neighbourhood.

“Discus is the first high-rise in Nacka’s most central parts, and with its strong form, the building will contribute to Nacka’s exciting silhouette,” says Nina Åman, City Architect, Nacka Municipality. “Discus clearly shows an architectural ambition that Nacka Municipality wants to see in future projects in Nacka City.”
