Tesla Spontaneously Catches Fire While Driving On The Highway

The Sacramento Metro Fire District resorted to social media to post details on a Tesla Model S that caught fire while driving down the highway.

According to a tweet, a fire rescue squad came to find a Tesla Model S engulfed in flames, although nothing out of the ordinary had happened prior. Two fire engines, a water tender, and a ladder truck, were called in for help. Crews utilized jacks to gain access to the battery’s underside to extinguish and cool it.

According to a second tweet from the scene, the Sacramento fire department concluded that the vehicle’s battery compartment spontaneously caught fire while traveling at highway speeds on EB Hwy 50. As the battery cells continued to burn, the fire was extinguished with around 6,000 gallons of water.

“Thankfully, no injuries were reported,” the tweet added.

It’s not the first time Metro Fire crews have pushed hard to put out a Tesla battery fire, according to reports.

A white Tesla exploded into flames and kept reigniting in a California wrecking yard in June 2022. The car had been in a crash three weeks previously and had “major damage,” according to fire crews.
