Idra, the manufacturer of Tesla’s huge casting press, has announced that the company is now shipping Tesla’s Cybertruck Giga Press, which will be the world’s largest press.
Earlier this year, Idra teased a new 9,000-ton Giga press that would be the world’s largest. Given Tesla’s history with Idra, it was assumed that the new machine would be for the automaker.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has since revealed that the machine will be utilized in building the Cybertruck body at Gigafactory Texas.
It’s one of the most important pieces of manufacturing equipment Tesla will require to put the Cybertruck into production. The huge machine is planned to be used by Tesla to construct the stainless steel body of the electric pickup truck.
To demonstrate the enormity of the machine, five men are pictured below, standing inside the Giga Press platen.
Idra provided this photo during a visit from the North American Die Casting Association last week before packing the machine.
Musk acknowledged last week that the company is presently installing the Cybertruck production line. It was a good announcement for the many Cybertruck reservation holders who have followed Tesla’s progress toward production following the vehicle program’s postponement.
Tesla restated its goal of starting production in mid-2023, and Musk stated that he expects to drive a Beta Cybertruck prototype within the next few weeks.
