Tesla Could Be Working On A Cheaper Car Model

Have you ever wanted to own a Tesla but didn’t have the budget? Well, we have some good news for you! Tesla might be making an affordable version of its electric vehicle (EV) soon enough!

Rumors from a reputable Chinese auto industry insider ????? broke the news that a prototype for an affordable version of the EV car has been completed by Tesla China and costs about $25,000 only. The leaked information was posted on the Chinese social media site Sina Weibo and a trial production is expected to begin at the end of this year, reports Teslarati.

While this might all be a hoax, some believe that the news could be true since the source is a trusted one among the online community. There was also the Chinese president’s announcement back in February, when he confirmed that a cheaper Tesla would be designed at the company’s Gigafactory in Shanghai, making this leaked information seem more credible.

The exact specifications of the ‘rumored’ car are still unknown, but it would most probably make use of Tesla’s new battery design that is 35% smaller than a conventional EV battery. Commenting on the state of the batteries, Elon Musk wrote in a tweet, “One of the things that trouble me the most is that we don’t have a truly affordable car, and that’s something we will have in the future. For that, we need cheaper batteries.”

It’ll be some time till we find out if this news is legit or not but if it turns out to be true, then it could prove to be a big opportunity for the EV industry as well as for Tesla to target the affordable market. This might even convince more people to ditch conventional cars and go electric altogether.
