SpaceX is planning to send Doge to the moon. No, not the dog but a CubeSat named after the popular meme dog. The DOGE-1 is a CubeSat meant to acquire lunar spatial intelligence from the moon using its onboard cameras and sensors. The DOGE will take a ride with the Falcon 9 rocket in the first quarter of 2022. The Geometric Energy Corporation will be playing for the trip. The internet is already flooding with memes after this announcement.
This news comes after SpaceX’s announcement that it will be now accepting Dogecoin as well, and according to them all the Dogecoins they get will be used exclusively to send the DOGE-1 CubeSat to the moon. Basically relying on a meme to send a meme to the moon. Dogecoin started as a goofy meme cryptocurrency before it reached its current value today due to the meme’s popularity. Though not as high as other cryptocurrencies.
Elon Musk is also one of the coin’s highest-profile supporters, tweeting memes about it constantly and even going as far as to call himself the “Dogefather”. The name is better than technolord at least. This latest news about sending a satellite named DOGE-1 to the moon might also be just Musk’s attempt to bring more life to the meme.
I guess Dogecoin will also see a boom in its price due to the hype this news will get. This would be a welcome change the cryptocurrency is seeing some hard times. Even after the recent spikes in its price. The currency crashed from Musk accidentally called Dogecoin a hustle. It just goes to show how volatile cryptocurrencies are if they can spike or crash just based on the public’s mood.
Tom Ochinero, SpaceX vice president of commercial sales said that “We’re excited to launch DOGE-1 to the Moon!”. He further explained that this new venture sets the foundation of interplanetary commerce. Even the CEO of the Geometric Energy Corporation said that the goal is to solidify Dogecoin as a unit of account for lunar business in the space sector.
The press release by SpaceX also emphasized the fact that Dogecoin is “sophisticated enough to finance a commercial Moon mission in full”. They also said that the coin will be used for all lunar business transactions between the two companies.
Experts believe the Dogecoin might see huge spikes in its price when the rocket launches sometime next year.
