The influence and presence of robotics are becoming prominent and essential in today’s era. This can also be proven by seeing the current examples of robots assisting surgeries and carrying out missions underwater. One of the essential traits for the healthy advancement of this important industry is in active collaboration between local government and industry leaders. Based on this, ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) announced that it plans to construct the most advanced robotics factory which the world has seen so far.

The setup was planned in the tech hub of Shanghai, and the project is supported by a sizeable backing investment of $150 million. The factory is designed with the aim of becoming the gold standard in the future of robotics factories. ABB envisions the future site housing, collaborative robotics, artificial intelligence, research, and other digital technologies. The concept of the underlying factory is to increase collaboration and making the most of every meter of the production facility. This also involves encouraging the onsite engineers, managers, and operators to conduct more real-time monitoring and assessment which will be enhanced by the company’s Ability Connected Services. This is also a coordinated system for spotting potential problems in the early stages, maximizing performance, and reducing the downtime.

This plan will make the Swiss company play the primary role in China and the world as well. The company strongly believes in China’s potential to emerge as a global tech leader shortly. The company also claims that it has been investing actively for the last 100 years and has so far spent $2.4 billion. This implies that the recent move by the company is an evolution in a long history of cooperation, collaboration and development with China. The world is looking forward to the dynamic creations and solutions which will soon emerge from this factory.

CEO of ABB, Ulrich Spiesshofer said, “China’s commitment to transform its manufacturing is a torchlight for the rest of the world. Its strategic embrace of the latest technologies for artificial intelligence, advanced robotics, and cloud-based computing present a playbook for every country that wishes to have a globally competitive manufacturing base. Shanghai has become a vital center for advanced technology leadership – for ABB and the world.

We look forward to working with Shanghai Mayor Ying Yong, other community leaders, and our customers as we launch this major expansion of ABB’s substantial presence in China, building on our journey to become China’s leading Robotics manufacturer that started in Shanghai over two decades ago.”
