It sounds unreal knowing about a place that has nothing to create lines among the people. But it is actually real. There is a city where people are living without money, religion and politics. The city, Auroville, was founded in 1968 and UNESCO considers it an international city. People from 50 different countries, nationalities and cultures are living here.
The city’s website states, “Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity.” The people here, manage to live together without any issues. There is no political system, no religion and no money is involved in the city either. People live through a system of making exchanges instead of any monetary exchange.
The architecture of the city is also futuristic. It is built on an experimental architecture which is still in development and keeps on changing. The structure of the buildings makes its residents use optimizable, renewable energy. The goal of the city is to create a clean environment that’s the reason, they are putting efforts to reuse and recycle everything and make it a self-sustaining eco-city.
There are multi-cropping fields so there is no lack of food as well. There are many fruit trees which are spreading across 15 farms and are covering over 160 hectares of area. The city was founded by Mirra Afassa, who is also known as ‘The Mother of Auroville.’ According to her, “There should be a place on Earth that no nation could claim as their own; where all human beings of good will who have a sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world, obeying one single authority, that of the supreme truth.”
She added, “A place of peace, concord, and harmony where all the fighting instinct in man were used exclusively to overcome the cause of their sufferings and miseries, to overcome their weaknesses and ignorance, and to triumph over their limitations and disabilities. A place where the needs of the spirit and interest of progress precedence over the satisfaction of desires and passions or the pursuit of pleasure and material enjoyment.”
