Tracking your diet is often a tedious chore, but The Drop, the first automated food-logging wearable, aims to simplify the process. Using advanced AI and computer vision, this gadget tracks your meals with minimal effort from you.
The device resembles a small, stylish metal piece and operates as a smart eye for your nutrition. Equipped with a 4K camera, it intermittently snaps photos of your meals, detects food items, and analyzes them. Privacy concerns are addressed as images are deleted after processing. Through AI-powered cloud analysis, The Drop determines the nutritional breakdown of your meals, including calorie, protein, carbohydrate, and fat content.
The 27.6-gram device can be clipped to clothing or worn as a necklace. Its makers, led by co-founder Rangel Milushev, aim to establish a new category of wearables—nutrition trackers akin to fitness trackers. “Our vision is to empower users to effortlessly take control of their nutrition and health,” says Milushev.
Powered by machine learning, the wearable becomes smarter and more personalized with use. Its 16-hour battery life and 92% accuracy make it a robust option for tracking not just simple meals but also complex dishes with hidden ingredients.
The Drop integrates seamlessly with the Rex Premium App, offering personalized meal plans, recipes, workout suggestions, and health coaching without subscription fees. Scheduled for full release in July 2025, the app supports Android and iOS.
Technical specs include a dual-core 32-bit processor, 4K camera, Bluetooth 5.0, and compatibility with AI frameworks like ONNX runtime and TensorFlow Lite. Kickstarter backers can preorder the device starting at $199, with free shipping in the US and Canada.
The Drop promises to eliminate the hassle of manual food logging, making diet tracking smarter, easier, and more effective. By bridging technology with health, it’s a leap toward better lifestyle management.
