The photos that you upload and the photos that you’re tagged into all the time on Facebook can now be used to help you figure out the pace at which you are ageing and also recommends you the products for skin care.
What is does?
Facial recognition company ModiFace has launched an app ‘Beautiful Me’, which scans up to 500 personal images to help people understand their ageing process, and best makeup colour choices. Beautiful Me detects facial features like skin tone and under tone, and draws a graph of skin change over time. It also reveals true skin shade, and provides statistics about one’s make-up preferences.
How it does?
The users have to create a visual profile first. Beautiful Me can auto-download up to 500 of your Facebook photos, and it chooses 100 high-quality photos out of them for analysis. Based on these 100 photos, determines which skin pixels provide valid information and tosses the other pixels away. The neural network is trained with the valid information to detect the correct skin tone, exact shade, and other skin parameters.
How is it different?
While most apps only use basic analysis of a single photo, the combination of big data and machine learning algorithms used in Beautiful Me gives users a much more accurate description of their skin profile, as mentioned by the Director of Partnerships and Mobile Strategy, Miriam Pettinen.
How does it plan to make money?
Through product recommendation! Based on the information collected, the app will “pull together a combination of curated skin, anti-aging, and cosmetic products that best match the user’s profile.”
The Challenges!
One problem is that people’s skin profile doesn’t change much over a short period of time. So, if you don’t have enough data online, you’ll have to wait patiently to see the results. However, we, yet, have to know how far would this technology be useful for someone who is obsessed with photo-editing and shares only the best of the best on Facebook!
