In a groundbreaking report, NASA has opened the door to the possibility that “potential unknown alien technology” may be operating within Earth’s atmosphere. The study, which seeks to elevate the scientific credibility of the field, aims to dispel the negative perception that has long surrounded Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) and rebrands them as Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAPs).
A panel of 16 experts from diverse scientific backgrounds, spanning from physics to astrobiology, has compiled this report, considering UAPs as “one of our planet’s greatest mysteries.” The report highlights that there have been numerous sightings of objects in Earth’s skies that cannot be identified as conventional objects like balloons, aircraft, or natural phenomena. However, these sightings lack consistent, detailed, and curated observations, making it challenging to draw definitive scientific conclusions. The report stresses the importance of data in unlocking the mysteries of the universe, but it cautions against making extraterrestrial claims based on existing UAP reports.
While the report acknowledges that there is currently no reason to conclude that existing UAP reports have an extraterrestrial origin, it underscores the plausibility that “potential unknown alien technology” could be operating in Earth’s atmosphere, given the vastness of the galaxy and the possibility of extraterrestrial life.
The report emphasizes that it does not review previous UFO incidents but serves as a roadmap for future scientific study and evaluation of UAPs. Notably, the report only considers unclassified reports, with the authors acknowledging that classified images and reports of UAPs exist within the US Military.
NASA commits to a concerted effort to scientifically study UAPs, utilizing both its satellites and commercial satellites and harnessing artificial intelligence to analyze data. The public is encouraged to contribute by using smartphone apps to capture potential UAP sightings. NASA has appointed a new director of UAP research, although their identity remains confidential due to concerns about harassment and threats faced by panel members during the report’s preparation.
The report underscores the significance of resolving UAP mysteries, as it acknowledges the potential threat to U.S. airspace safety posed by UAPs. When questioned about the reliance on unclassified material, Dr. Dan Evans, one of the report’s authors, explained that using unclassified data allows for open discourse and aims to shift the conversation from sensationalism to science.
Addressing a recent claim by a UFO expert regarding ancient “non-human” alien corpses, the panel suggested that samples from these corpses should be made available to the wider scientific community.
This report follows NASA’s 2021 report, compiled in collaboration with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and a Navy-led task force, which cataloged numerous UAP observations, particularly by military personnel. The 2021 report highlighted the insufficiency of data to determine the nature of some observed objects, further fueling scientific interest in the study of UAPs.
