Mysterious ice balls are being washed out on the Russian coast and nobody knows why. Different people have different views about the mysterious ice balls but nobody can say for certain what is causing them to appear. Ecologist Ilya Leukhin told local media that oil spills in the water could have created the ice balls.
Yuryi Shahov videoed and shared this bizarre sight online and said, “Seems that someone has thrown snowballs into the Gulf.” These balls were up to 17 cm (7 inches) in diameter and even though theories are still coming in, no definitive explanation has been found for their existence as of yet.
Some people think that the snow was rolled together by the waves and some say that these are in fact stones covered with ice. Some people have some wildly interesting theories. One such comment on the video said, “This is whale caviar. Do not listen to anyone and look for a dead whale nearby. Those usually die right after sweeping away the eggs.”
This is not the first time mysterious ice balls have appeared on a beach. Back in 2014, hundreds of beach-ball-sized ice boulders washed out on the Lake Michigan. These weighed up to 75 pounds and were from the chunks of ice that break off from the large sheets of ice on the lake.
