Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Shows 100% Efficacy In Teens

Moderna COVID-19 vaccine should be your priority vaccine if you are a teen, as the company has claimed that their vaccine has been proven to be 100 percent effective in a recent study.

The test was conducted on some 3,700 participants and it was found that the vaccine works 100 percent on participants between the age bracket of 12-18 years old.

Just a month ago, Pfizer and BioNTech announced that their vaccine is best suitable for individuals aged between 12 to 15 years old, followed by the announcement by Moderna that their vaccine has shown none of the safety problems in a clinical trial for all individuals in their teen years.

The TeenCOVE study aimed at testing the Moderna vaccine’s effectiveness in teens, as the name suggests itself. About 3,700 participants between ages 12 to 18 years old were enrolled to find out the efficacy of the vaccine. Two-third of the participants got the dosage, and the rest got a placebo.

After a span of two weeks, it was found that the teens who got their dosage of the vaccine didn’t contract the virus at all, however, those teens who got the placebo reported a total of four COVID-19 positive patients, upon which the researchers concluded that the vaccine works a 100 percent.

“We are encouraged that mRNA-1273 was highly effective at preventing COVID-19 in adolescents. It is particularly exciting to see that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine can prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection,” Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna said in a press release. “We will submit these results to the U.S. FDA and regulators globally in early June and request authorization. We remain committed to doing our part to help end the COVID-19 pandemic.” She added.

This comes as a piece of good news, as the world for some parts is getting back to normal after the vaccine is showing success. The vaccinated teens in the TeenCOVE study only reported some mild side effects after getting the dosage of the vaccine, which included headaches, body aches, fatigue, and mild temperatures. For the rest part, fortunately, there were no associated complications reported whatsoever, and none of the vaccinated individuals was found to contract the virus.

The Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine got a timely review after being proven safe for children aged between 12-15 years old, the regulators’ review marked it safe for the vaccination amongst the teens. Similar timely approval is expected for the Moderna vaccine which has proved its mark to be safe for the teens in the recent TeenCOVE study.
