During his initial time at Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg maintained a relaxed appearance through his use of hoodies and flip-flops together with jeans. The hoodie that Mark Zuckerberg wore during his early Facebook days sold for $15,875 at auction, surpassing its estimated value of $1,000 to $2,000.
Julien’s Auctions conducted the sale within the “Spotlight: History and Technology” event. Zuckerberg wore the black hoodie, which displayed Facebook’s original mission, “Making the world open and connected,” during his early 2010s period. The interior of the hoodie contains a symbolic design featuring three arrows labeled “graph,” “platform,” and “stream” that surround the year 2010, which marked Zuckerberg’s Time Person of the Year recognition and The Social Network movie release.
The hoodie that Zuckerberg wore in his 2010 interview with Kara Swisher is thought to be the original piece he used in that appearance. During the interview, he became nervous and broke into a sweat while discussing Facebook’s privacy policies. Swisher observed the inside fabric of the hoodie, which she described as a “weird symbol,” during their interview.

Matt Thompson received the hoodie through Facebook Marketplace as part of a 20th anniversary celebration for the company when he worked as IT director at Huckabay ISD in Texas. Thompson used the hoodie as an auction item to support extracurricular programs at his school since he sponsors the esports team. The hoodie appeared to him as “just like clean laundry,” and he was grateful that “no sweat stains, thank God” were present.
The media has already covered Zuckerberg’s clothing items before. A gold-plated chain that Zuckerberg donated to a charity auction last year fetched $40,500 from buyers. The hoodie’s high auction price demonstrates how Silicon Valley history continues to captivate people while showing that everyday items can transform into important cultural artifacts.
