Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has recently won two gold medals and one silver in his first jiu-jitsu competition. While Zuckerberg’s interest in fighting is not new, it’s interesting to see one of the world’s richest and most powerful men battling it in what looks like a high school gymnasium.
As reported by USA Today, Zuckerberg competed in his very first jiu-jitsu competition and won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu team. He shared the news on his Sunday Instagram post, where he thanked his trainers and added a few medal emojis.
Although many people find it surreal to see Zuckerberg fighting, hobbies like jiu-jitsu are a healthy way to cope with the pressures of being a CEO. However, other Instagram commenters pointed out how bizarre it probably was for the other fighters in the room and those who had to fight the man who built Facebook. One Swedish YouTuber even joked, “imagine getting zuck’ed by the Zuck.”
Zuckerberg’s interest in fighting is not new. He previously participated in a martial arts-centered promotion for Meta’s AR products. He even bought out an entire UFC arena for himself, his horrified wife, and a few colleagues to enjoy a big-name fight.
Though Zuckerberg’s interest in fighting is primarily for personal reasons, it’s worth noting that he was once interested in using the Metaverse to create a new world with less violence.
Having a hobby, no matter how unconventional, can be a great way to relieve stress and maintain mental and physical health. Even someone as busy and powerful as Mark Zuckerberg finds time to pursue his passion for fighting through jiu-jitsu competitions.
While his involvement in the sport may seem surreal, it’s important to remember that everyone deserves a healthy outlet for their energy and stress.
So, whether it’s martial arts, sports, or any other activity, it’s always a good idea to pursue a hobby that brings you joy and helps you stay balanced.
