Gardening and robots are not two words commonly used in the same sentence. With the ever increasing technology, there are rarely any fields left where robotics has yet to enter. Gardening takes up a lot of time and effort. If you love gardening but have other commitments that take up your time, there is no need to worry. KickStarter is working on just the thing for busy gardening enthusiasts.
GardenSpace is a robot that stands guard in your garden and makes sure the plants are watered properly and on time. It’s working is simple enough, All you have to do is connect it to your WiFi, and with the help of an app indicate which plant is located where. Connect your garden hose to GardenSpace and then you can sit back and relax while it takes over.
Based on the local weather forecast, GardenSpace makes a watering schedule. Apart from scheduled watering, it keeps track of all plants in the vicinity at all times with a rotating camera and uses its thermal sensors to sense if they need any extra water.
It has a nozzle placed beside the camera from which it shoots a steady stream of water whenever required. The nozzle can shoot water up to 8 feet. What makes the robot even more convenient is that it has an integrated battery and a solar panel on top which continuously charges it. This eliminates the need of plugging it into an electrical socket.
As if this was not enough, it has a security feature as well. The constant surveillance of plants allows is to detect animals and pests. Whenever it senses a threat to the plants, like a rabbit or a similar animal approaching, it shoots a stream of water at the animal, scaring it away without actually hurting it.
