Forget ‘Tesla Semi’, Mercedes Rolls Out The World’s First All-Electric Truck

Elon Musk’s Tesla Semi project, to build all-electric commercial automobiles, was met with amazed and bemused looks. As it turns out, Mercedes-Benz is already hard at work, and the company has unveiled its concept designs for the Urban eTruck. Watch the eTruck concept explained in this video:

The Urban e-truck comes with a range of 124 miles per charge and can lug around 26 tonnes. Its load capacity is thus nearly the same as that of the diesel semi-trucks.

Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes, is already consumer testing its lighter-duty, all-electric semis

Weight and aerodynamics are the essential factors that determine the range of an EV. If you think that the range of 124 miles is too less as compared to the Tesla Model S or the Chevy Bolt EV, consider putting a weight of 26 thousand pounds being carried by an electric vehicle.

Mercedes plans to go into production by 2020s. The company said that the eTruck would be ideal for short-radius distribution. Mercedes is also working on the design of an autonomous truck and keeps teasing it off and on.
