Who doesn’t love a nice bike ride to home while enjoying the beauty of the city or the countryside! However, this can be a bit hazardous as well. One has to dodge multiple construction sites and speeding drivers regularly.
It can become even more hazardous if you have a habit of listening to music when you commute. Imagine if you didn’t hear a loud horn of a speeding truck on your tail while you were enjoying your favorite track from Jason Mraz! That would probably be the last sound you’ll ever hear!
Multiple solutions have been developed over the year to cater for this problem. A company known as Coros has now created a new bike helmet using bone conduction technology. It will allow you to navigate, enjoy music, or attend your phone calls during a bike ride.
The helmet uses two discs that rest on the cheekbones. These discs send vibrations to the inner ear to hear everything without covering the ears.
Chuck Frizelle, CEO of Coros, said in an interview,
“There’s a big chunk of cyclists who know that they’re unsafe, believe that they’re unsafe, but they still do it because they want to listen to their music or make calls. Then there’s another chunk of people who really enjoy music and podcasts and decide not to do it because of safety. But if they had the opportunity to do something like that it really would change their cycling and how often they cycle.”
This helmet has the potential to revolutionize the way of using ear buds while commuting. The sound on the bone conduction headphones is a little weaker than the noise-canceling earbuds. However, it still gives almost perfect sound without covering your ears or making you oblivious to your surroundings.
The helmet is called Linx, and it connects your smartphone with the headphone via Bluetooth. It is also equipped with a tiny smart remote that can be attached to your handlebar and allows you to set the volume, skip songs, or answer calls. You can also connect voice navigation before starting your ride. In the event of a crash, the helmet can automatically detect the impact to contact your emergency number right away.
