Building the dream home is a goal that everyone has but not everyone is able to execute it the way they want to. Usually that happens because of the budget cuts, but did you know that you could build your dream house only for $500? It won’t have large garages for your imaginary Porsche though! We know everyone’s dream house is different and the price quoted above won’t be applicable to all but here’s a couple that was able to build their dream house in the same budget; meet photographer Nick Olson and designer Lilah Horwitz.
The house is located in mountains of West Virginia and has been created from pieces of a barn that was abandoned and old glass windows both of which were salvaged. It took them months to complete this project and since it required quite a lot of dedication and commitment; they had to quit their jobs to complete this. They took an economical approach and lived on rice and beans during this time period. According to them; ‘We were able to make it a reality because we are first artists and creators. We had to be resourceful to do it cheaply.’
The end result is mesmerizing and quite stunning; despite the house not having any sort of electricity or plumbing, it is still one of those juxtaposed homes that deliver the contrast between modern and rustic. Both are working now and spend most of their time in Milwaukee, however, the cabin is their escape plan to jump back into the boat with nature and enjoy themselves!
Nice, but will it make it through the first winter or windstorm?
