The NIO EP9 is laden with a 1,390 horsepower engine, which is quite impressive for an electric car. With four high-performance motors and four separate gearboxes, the car can give a mammoth 1 megawatt of power. No wonder the EP9 can reach a top speed of 194 mph, with an astounding acceleration of going from 0-124 mph in just 7.1 seconds.
Along with the imposing wheels, sleek body and slit headlights, its carbon fibre chassis means that it is light weight as well as super strong. The NIO EP9 is controlled using an e-control structure and sensor system, which means that even a self-driving feature can be easily embedded in the future.
NextEV founder William Li said:
“The NIO EP9 was born to push limits and is the first stage of automotive production for NIO. It is a statement of our vision and technical and manufacturing capabilities. It is a best-in-class product that showcases what is possible with electric vehicles.”
The statement added,
“We believe that when the car ownership experience exceeds expectations, electric vehicles will become the natural choice for everyone, leading to a more sustainable tomorrow.”
It also boasts a quick charging battery, being able to top up within 45 minutes and giving an impressive 265-mile range. This falls a little short of Tesla Model X’s 315 miles range and misses Model X’s 0-60 mph acceleration standards by just 0.2 seconds. But it still is quite a feat, and is certainly a good addition to the electric car market.
